Audrey Hepburn’s big break came in 1953 when she was cast opposite Gregory Peck in the charming, old-fashioned romantic comedy Roman Holiday.  Audrey Hepburn (4 May 1929 - 20 January 1993) was an iconic Academy Award-winning actress, fashion model and humanitarian.Born Audrey Kathleen Ruston in Brussels, Belgium, she was the only child of John Victor Hepburn-Ruston, an Anglo Irish banker, and Baroness Ella van Heemstra, a Dutch aristocrat descended from French and English kings. Her father later appended the name Hepburn to his surname, and Audrey's surname became Hepburn-Ruston. She had two half-brothers, Alexander and Ian Quarles van Ufford, by her mother's first marriage to a Dutch nobleman.
Facts about her life
*Audrey had a difficult childhood. At at age 5 she was sent to boarding school in England, at 6 her father walked out on the family, and as a teenager she lived in occupied Holland during the war.
*The 1950s saw Audrey emerge as a major Hollywood movie star after first captivating audiences on Broadway in Gigi.
*During the 1960s, Audrey took on more daring roles such as Holly Golightly in the movie Breakfast at Tiffany's. Audrey also became a mother after giving birth to her first son, Sean. 
*Audrey's career took a back seat for most of the 1970s while she concentrated on being a mother to her two sons: Sean and Luca.
*Audrey found companionship with Dutch actor Robert Wolders, and found her most important role as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador.
